Robert Montell Stephenson began his career as a law clerk to federal District Court Judge Prentice H. Marshall. After serving his two year clerkship, Bob joined the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois reaching supervisory rank within one year. During his time in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Bob oversaw all government appeals and tried governmental corruption and financial crime cases. The United States Department of Justice awarded Bob the prestigious Director's Award for his governmental service.

When Bob left the U.S. Attorney's Office, he joined a white collar criminal law defense firm, Cotsirilos, Stephenson, Tighe & Streicker. Bob remained at that firm for more than 20 years. During this time, Bob tried many defense cases before juries achieving an impressive win record.

In 1993, the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, through the vote of his peers, made Bob a Fellow in the College. Membership in the College is extremely restricted and limited to only the very best trial lawyers.

In 2000, Bob decided to expand his practice into the area of civil defense, representing both individuals and corporations in major complex civil litigation. To accomplish this goal, Bob joined the firm of Foley & Lardner where he remained for eight years. Thereafter, Bob joined the firm of Locke Lord where he remained for another eight years. Bob now practices with the firm Walker Morton where he has been the last two years. For the 18 years he has been actively engaged in the defense of civil litigation, Bob has represented successfully both individuals and corporations.
